Dear siblings

Have you stopped to think about the fact that we’re surrounded by angels? The idea may seem preposterous until we recognise that it’s God’s angels who’ve surrounded us. Want to know why? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat.

Psalms 34:7 NIV

[7] The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.

Guardian Angels

Well folks

It seems that we do have guardian angels after all. Basically, guardian angels are divine beings specifically assigned to protect believers. These are NOT spirit guides, as their role is only for protection; whereas spirit guides usually refer to spiritual beings who offer direction into the spirit realm. I suspect that they’ve been understood in somewhat similar ways, and so are taboo in many Christian circles.

When we consider our Nougat as well as Psalm 91, however, it is apparent that there are angels whose specific task is to offer protection to God’s children. If we take that role quite literally, then they would be our guardian angels.

No over-spiritualizing or dabbling with the occult, just stating the fact.

Self-Check

How do we feel about guardian angels? Is it uncomfortable to think about such?

Digging Deeper

Siblings, the thought of having a heavenly advantage in some situations warms my heart. Whether it is work-related, when travelling, or in potentially dangerous situations, I am happy to know that my Creator loves me to the extent of having angels assigned to protect me. It makes me feel like a princess!

In our Nougat, we’re told that God’s angel encamps around us. The meaning is fairly straightforward, as camping is not a strange concept to us. Except, in the case of these angels, they are not part-time. Encamping refers to a more permanent set-up than camping. In Hebrew, it has a military connotation, often linked to sieges. Except that… these angels are about the business of nonstop protection of us! They’re our unpaid security. Unpaid, because they’re on God’s payroll, not ours.

In 2 Kings 6, we may recall these guardian angels in full work mode. When Elisha and his servant seemed to be outnumbered, Elisha asked God to show the servant why they need not fear. The Arameans were completely surrounded by Elisha’s guardian angels. The Arameans were ‘under siege’! I believe that in our present time, we also have angels assigned to us, who work alongside God’s Spirit, under the guidance of the Prince of Peace Himself, to assure our well-being. Is that not comforting?

Even more comforting is the thought that we don’t even have to give them orders, because our God has already directed them to protect us. At most, we might ask the Lord to sensitise us to the presence of the angels sent to deliver us; or, better yet, alert us to the victory. For, when we fear God, when we remain focused on God (not the angels), our deliverance is already secured. That’s comforting.

I hope you’re now a little more convinced that there’s a benefit to having angels surround us. Stay surrounded by those encamping angels. God bless you.

Point to Ponder

Do you think there’s any situation that can result in our entrapment if we put God in control? Remember, we have the Triune God and our guardian angels on our side.

May all we seek be found in Christ
