Nougat 18

Hello dears,

So now we’re suited up; but no weapon; that makes for instant defeat. The fact is; we need the entire armour if we expect to withstand and stand against the enemy of our souls. Today’s Holy Nougat speaks to that.

“Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians‬ ‭6:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When the psalmist determined to hide the Word of God in his heart to circumvent sin, we might not have thought weaponry. But it may have registered in the Gospels; especially in the accounts of His being tempted. From those accounts, we may also have concluded that the enemy of our souls ALSO has TOTAL command of Scripture.

It means that we MUST be very conversant with the Word, literally and spiritually. From a literal perspective, we need to be familiar with What God’s Word says from Genesis right through to Revelation. There’s a lot of good weaponry to be had and applied in our times of testing. And they will come. But, we overcome by God’s Word.

Of course, we remember that Jesus IS also the Word. And as I typed, the revelation struck that Jesus is definitely part of our armour. He is the Word in the flesh (see John 1); and at His name EVERY knee is obliged to bow in reverence. Not some; but All. (See Philippians 2) Further, having conquered Death and the Grave, and having overcome the temptations in the Wilderness; we are assured Jesus knows how to counterattack. So with Jesus as our sword; we are in a good place.

Another thought struck me in this nougat, when Jesus is the sword we are using, we enter the battle with the Trinity as our weapon of choice. For, we use the sword of God’s Spirit; not just any spirit; which is (Jesus) the Word of God. That’s all three right there – now how about that! When we use our Sword, we are armed and dangerous.

So as we confront and maneuver, we go with the confidence found in being able to wield the sword. Despite the enemy’s familiarity with the Word; we know that in Christ we are more than conquerors. Hence our Sword is sharper for being the Word incarnate backed by God’s Spirit. Let’s keep our Sword sharp and at the ready.
