Nougat 18

Have you ever had one of those moments when you wondered ‘why me’ or ‘where was/is Hod in the midst of all this’? If so, I invite you to consider today’s Holy Nougat

“When they had to abandon him, Pharaoh’s daughter adopted him and raised him as her own son.” Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭7:21‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In almost every version of the Bible (or maybe in all), we are told that Moses was special from birth. And though not stated explicitly, one gets the sense that his parents were acting on God’s instructions when they hid him those first three months. Having done that, and perhaps forming a bond with him – I suspect that they had questions for God.

“Why the river? Isn’t that where pharaoh is murdering the other infants?”

“In that little ark Lord? How will he eat? Who will keep him safe?”

“But Lord, if Miriam is watching him, I’m going to lose TWO children at once! I don’t know if I have the strength for that. Isn’t there a better plan Lord?”

“Pharaoh’s daughter! Lord, that’s not even funny! So what’s the real plan to save this child Lord?”

And you can probably insert another set of questions that Jochebed may have asked.

The fact is, God’s plans are NEVER, EVER, AT ALL one-dimensional. In fact, they are not even 3D. Rather, like gemstones carefully crafted after being sourced from the hidden recesses of the earth; God’s plans have multiple facets. Not only had God prepared pharaoh’s daughter to take Moses and raise him with a clear understanding of his dual nationality, God also prepared Jethro’s family to provide the special tertiary education of humility and servant leadership. And both sets of skills and knowledge were essential for leading the Hebrews. He understood the enemy. He was raised and taught by them, but he was not quite the same as they were. God set him apart for something else and put ALL the necessary provisions in place from BEFORE he was even born!

So whatever we are faced with this new week – the good, bad, worrisome, lovely, ugly, and/or blessed – I hasten to remind us that our diamond crafting God has got us covered.

Oh what a relief.

Now for each of us to listen and obey God’s plans.
