Wanna deepen our relationship with Jesus? Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We determine what pleases the Lord so that we might demonstrate our love for God. This is a formula we use in earthly relationships. There’s the bestselling book for example, The 5 Love Languages, which postulates that humans have basic ways to demonstrate and receive Love. The author then suggests that we try to discern what works for ourselves and others in order to foster/strengthen our relationships. I suspect Chapman (the author) may have been thinking of this verse.

As we seek therefore to live faithfully and lovingly with God, it is incumbent upon us to consider our love languages and more critically, what pleases God. For God’s pleasure ought to be the subject and objective of our lives. We live For God’s pleasure. Literally. And with that in mind, our next task is to get to know God intimately by a) reading the Word daily, b) by engaging in ongoing conversation with God; and c) by seeking to grasp the essence of what pleases God from God’s Commandments.

These combine to ensure that we have the general, specific and personal sense of how to please the Lover of our souls. Can you imagine a better way to get this information? Copying from someone could work, but we lose the intimacy that God seeks with us. Jesus puts it quite simply, ‘if you love me, keep my commandments’. And that’s it right there, we discover what pleases God and acting on it.
