How was your weekend; did you rest? Please remember that our bodies require an opportunity to recover from the rigors of the previous week. The focus today isn’t rest however, so let’s move on to today’s Holy Nougat
“And he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a mantle.” Isaiah 59:17 ASV
When I read this recently, shock and excitement vied for precedence in my mind. Shock, because I hadn’t registered that there was precedence in the Hebrew Bible; and excitement that this is a descriptor for The Messiah (ie Christ). Yet, this is possibly the basis for Paul’s reflection on Christian Spiritual Armor in Ephesians 6
Given that possibility, one realizes that here lies another clue to emulating Christ. Inasmuch as we seek to reflect Christ’s grace and love, there are times when – like Christ – we need protective gear for our minds also.
So having rested this past weekend, this may be a very good time to get our armor on. Let’s leave vengeance to God however while we zealously following Christ!
