Somehow, I keep having these wonderful songs on my heart. And I just feel I should share the joy! The beauty of that song is that it calls us to celebrate the first arrival AS WELL AS Christ’s eventual return. When he appears next it will not be as a vulnerable baby, rather he will be coming as our Sovereign. Today’s Holy Nougat invites us to consider our response to his offer of friendship prior to his return.
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends. Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. Revelation 3:20-21 NLT
This is a very intriguing nougat as it engages us at the faith level in a very profound way. Firstly, Christ invites us into relationship and suggests that a successful relationship comes with a reward. We will reign alongside him someday.
Secondly, we note that Christ is exceptionally aware that a relationship with him poses serious challenges. In essence, we will have to fight to maintain and sustain the relationship with him. Then we are deemed “Victorious”. Are we prepared to be the winning team?
Thirdly, the feasting begins before Christ’s return. What will our mealtime conversations sound like? Will we choose to learn more about him in the time, or simply complain and beg our way through the friendship?
Finally, we recognise that this is a mutual relationship. Jesus reaches out to us.
We get to choose whether we will receive our King when he calls/knocks. We decide whether to Choose Christ, to share the meal with him, And frame what our relationship will be. Have we answered the door or prepared room for him in our lives?
