Greetings from earth!
Over the past 7 days, I’ve received 3 news of deaths. None was expected, although one of the 3 has been paper retired for a while. This morning I feel the need to ask, “Are we ready if it’s our time to die?”
Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™
But some of them said, Could not He Who opened a blind man’s eyes have prevented this man from dying? John 11:37
They scoffed in anger. But they were right. And they were wrong. Their approach was wrong and their lack of faith was wrong. But He who opened the blind man’s eyes could have prevented the death. He chose to raise him up … Lazarus had his (1st) appointment. Jesus granted a reprieve. He eventually died.
But fundamentally, they were still doubting Jesus. Christ’s identity was once more at stake. They, the death row inmate beside Jesus on the cross, the Pharisees and Saducees all had much in common with the Devil at that moment. Remember the Wilderness Showdown … “If you are the Son of God …!”
Problem is, we are often guilty of the same when we second guess Jesus, making alternative and contingency plans before consulting Jesus.
So what now? We rework our decision making templates to intentionally include Jesus. We overhaul our Faith through deeper involvement with Jesus (prayer, reading the Word, bible study, small group meeting, divine worship for example), to the extent that we know that we know who we know.
For he is faithful.
And even when the NO comes – and they will – we are assured that there is a better yes. Even when Death comes – ours or others – we have the assurance that there is the Resurrection in Christ Jesus.
Can he do it? Most definitely. Will he do it? Depends on what he’s got planned for each of us.
Let’s fix our hope on Jesus.
In Christ
