After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. Matthew 14:23 NLT
Having long established that he is God and human, Jesus’s didn’t really need to go off to pray. Jesus was not wrestling with an issue at that point in his ministry, but he made time for recharging his spiritual batteries. This is especially important for those of us employed in full-time ministry. For it is all too easy to become sidetracked by the variety of ministry needs without making time for us and God, one-on-one.
God desires to enjoy some intimate time with each of us. Time away from the maddening crowd. Time for us to simply back in God’s presence and, like Moses, to radiate God’s glory.
It isn’t easy. Jesus had to send everyone away. We may need to remove ourselves from the noise and hubbub around us. We may need to find a discreet, polite way to remove the detractors and distractions from our presence, but it is that important.
God really deserves that time, and will make it worth our while.
