Do you have a happy scripture? In my personal devotions yesterday I read Psalm 136, and I tell you – my, my, my! My heart soared It is GOOD to love God and be loved by God. Only thing that tops that is KNOWING that we are loved by God. Although I really wanted to post the first three verses, here’s today’s Holy Nougat
“Oh give thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; For his lovingkindness endureth for ever.”
Psalms 136:1 ASV
Give thanks unto the God of gods… Give thanks unto the LORD of lords (verses 2-3 intro) … a trinity of thanksgiving – all because God’s love is timeless! At the time of preparing this reflection, I ought to feel more like Habakkuk in the first chapter of the book bearing his name, for so many things haven’t yet been realized since the tornado – including the return of electricity.
However, I am definitely in a Habakkuk 3 kind of mood. I am choosing to see God’s hand at work even in the aftermath of the storm. You see, this is not about mere platitudes about God’s involvement in our lives during those rough moments – this is testimony of God’s provision, protection and Presence before, during and after the storms. So I think of my goddaughter – and her mother’s testimony – God’s love endures forever! I think of my advocate whose entire journey is a living testimony, yet she finds time to encourage me during travels – God’s love endures forever! I think of my brother whose journey from Third World poverty to independence in the First World is a testimony of God’s forever kind of love; and I’m ready to sing dance and shout! I think of my son and his testimony … which I’ve not yet heard – Truly my God’s love endures forever! Hallelujah
Yes, there’s evil. And horrible things do happen to us. That does not repudiate God’s sovereignty nor does it negate the fact that our God’s love endures forever
