Nougat 16

Sometimes when life happens it seems God is asleep on the boat or somewhere else. At those moments, it can be very tempting to do our own thing. But today’s Holy Nougat invites us to do differently.

“Wait for ADONAI. Be strong, let Your heart take courage, and wait for ADONAI.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭27:14‬ ‭TLV‬‬

Waiting on God can be a full time job. Not only in the literal sense of paid work. But also in the time it seems to take to hear God. And more so, the wait is full time as we try to overcome the temptation to become CEO and consultant for God when life isn’t moving along quickly enough for us.

Can we think of a (few) time(s) when we tried to take over God’s job in our impatience and it set us further back? Or when we practically had to run crying in repentance and desperation? And did we still have to wait on God to sort whatever out for us?

And what about us opting to let go of the desire to be in control so God could BE God? Did things work out in ways we could ‘see’ God in the mix? I have been to both places and I surely fare better when I wait on God.

So how does this full-time Wait work; and how to avoid it becoming a Weight?

The psalmist says ‘let our hearts take courage’; in other words – don’t give up. Even when every one else seems to have got things figured out. Don’t give up on God. Even when everyone else seems to have heard from God and we have not; let’s not fake it – let’s wait. And when it feels as though we’re down for the count, let’s not waste our last breath; instead we can cry out to God in prayer and expectation. We’ll either end with that voice of godly praise OR our deliverance will come. In either way; God gets glorified.

This means that we practice waiting on God in little things long before the major test of faith comes along. Through prayer, praise and active listening we can build the endurance for moments of waiting. It is sometimes in the wait that the blessing is hidden. For certain, it is one source of spiritual growth. And oh, what bliss when our God comes through for us!

So whether it’s the Valley of Shadows of debt, death, or plain unadulterated evil; we take heart, praying and praising our time to God’s intervention.

Wait … on God’s timing.
