Even so, you have done well to share with me in my present difficulty. Philippians 4:14 NLT
Considering Paul’s somewhat independent streak, His appreciation for help of any kind is worth considering. This was not a selfish group as in the verses which follow; Paul indicates that they were always ready to provide for his wellbeing. So, one wonders, what motivates Paul’s commendation? I suspect that it was an affirmation of their generosity which, though offered to Paul was actually a sacrifice unto God (see verse 18)!
What then is the benefit of Paul’s commendation to the Philippians for our lives today? Could it be a reminder, rather am assurance that our giving to any one (especially to God’s chosen ministers); matters greatly to God? In fact, would we benefit from the realization that giving to others IS giving to God?!
In recent times, God had been stirring each of our hearts to give to others, to place the need of another before our own. What will it be; giving as unto God; or doing our own thing?
Lord help us look beyond ourselves to the awesomeness You provide through opportunities to bless others. Soften our hearts to obey You we pray in Jesus’s name amen
