Hello

There has been a plethora of ‘disasters’ unfolding around the globe recently. Some were genuine natural disasters, others a result of climate change/global warming/dis-eased creation; and there have been theories that many more are man made warfare, disguised as natural phenomena.

Today’s Holy Nougat™ offers another perspective on disasters

Suddenly, there was a massive earthquake, and the prison was shaken to its foundations. All the doors immediately flew open, and the chains of every prisoner fell off! Acts of the Apostles 16:26 NLT

How would our theology (understanding of God and God’s god-ness) shift if we believed that at the root of every disaster there are souls being released from bondage? Now that could be either literal physical bondage, material bondage and/or addictions, or spiritual bondages. Wouldn’t that be truly amazing!?

Of course, we are absolutely conscious that in Rome, release of captives meant the death of the jailer. Lost prisoners therefore would not be great news for everyone. But, when we top today’s Nougat with Isaiah 61.1 and Luke 4.18, we realize that God is in the Captive-releasing business.

So, what disaster are we faced with in this moment? Is it at all feasible that there is a positive element to the phenomenon? How might it look from a God’s eye view? (And before we respond let’s revisit Jeremiah 29:10-13; and Romans 8:28-39 to hear God’s assurance in the mix) Also, let us consider how we have been designed by God to assist in the release of those who are bound. Have we been fulfilling our roles in this regard?

Lord please shift our perspectives …

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
