We are again looking at gifts. Here’s today’s Holy Nougat
Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree growing in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it but did not find any. Luke 13:6 NIV
Fig trees in a vineyard! Did you ever notice that? That makes no sense whatsoever. Yes, they are fruits,figs and grapes. But one is a vine and the other a tree. Their cycles of fruit-bearing are also different. Not the most likely pair for a farm and definitely not in a vineyard!
Yet, it seems as though the fig tree was not accidentally in the vineyard. For, whether the owner was the one who planted it, he Kept it AND knew that it was there. He also expected it to be bearing fruit.
That might have been unreasonable as figs cross-pollinate, ie it requires another fig tree in the nearby vicinity to produce fruit; or at least bees which have been visiting another tree (or something to that effect). A lone fig tree in a vineyard might not bear very readily.
Are you that fig tree?
Growing among grapes, and expected to be fruitful? If yes, know that …
– You are singular but not alone.
– You are NOT a grape. Be your best fig self ever.
– Though it seems that way, your presence in the vineyard is not accidental. Flourish under the unconventional circumstances despite.
– You are noticed. And great things are expected from you.
– At the right time you will be attended to, so that your fruitfulness is evident to everyone.
– Stay the course, it might not be time to pull up roots
– Your giftedness isn’t always obvious and may require special circumstances to be revealed and/or utilized.
Allow no one to discredit your God-bestowed gift!
May our Lives so flourish in the unlikely places, that even if we are not initially fruitful, others will notice us and be aware of our capabilities and capacity for excellence, glorifying God despite the odds.
