How are you? Busy, but not too busy for God? (At least I hope so).
Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™:
“But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Revelation 2:4 NLT
Wow!
Those words could easily have been lines from a love song or a Hollywood movie. You know the song (s) –
You’ve abandoned me
Love don’t live here anymore
But they’re not. No. These words are coming from the Lover of our Souls. Reminding us that every relationship requires attention, especially the spiritual one.
I can’t speak for you, but I must confess that I have had moments where I failed to keep God as my number One priority, and in that split second, something shifted. And, though I didn’t recognize it, I began to die on the inside.
But, in Him is Life, abundant Life. And when I recognized that I was home – but away – I confessed my sins and sought to restore the relationship.
Because you see, Jesus Christ IS our EVERYTHING!!!! It is in Him that we live, move and have our being (Acts 17:28). He is the Author and Finisher of our Faith, and He is our reason for being. Of course, much of that may sound cliche, especially when we’re undergoing whatever situation life may send our way. More so, if we suspect that that it results from a ¿Have you meet my servant Job? kind of conversation. The truth is, when we take a vacation from our First Love, we run the risk of destroying ourselves. Because there is one whose desire is to keep us away from the Joy of our Salvation. And in so planning will help us to create and widen the chasm between ourselves and our Joy.
So –
How do we guard against that happening, and if we’ve already discovered a strain in our relationship with our First Love, how do we change the tune of that love song?
Fellowshipping with at least another believer … Ones who hold us accountable and encourage us in our relationship
Seasons of persevering Prayer – especially when it feels like it’s bouncing off the roof back at us
Time in the Word. Reading and responding, using a devotional that connects is to our Soul Desire (YouVersion offers quite a few!!!)
Confession of unresolved sin. Yup, it gets in the way every time. EVERY time. When we haven’t confessed our sins, our prayer life may feel out of whack.
Praising our way back. A few praise songs, interspersed with prayers and testimonies to ourselves of who God is and how God has blessed us should restore that loving feeling …
Acknowledging that things aren’t right and determining, like Jacob, to remain steadfast in prayer and petition until the relationship is restored
Asking. Asking God to restore the relationship and an accountability partner to simply pray for us. [No need for details, just ask them to remember you in prayer]
These have worked to restore that loving feeling for me in the past. Feel free to add a few that have worked for you. For, we’re in this Love together, we gonna find our way to forever
May the Lover of our Souls be pleased with our love.
