Nougat 14

Sometimes, to get a perspective on a text, I visit the original transliteration, and I also read multiple versions. What about you, do you read the Bible in multiple versions? Why/not? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat, which offers a slightly different take on our Nougat. It’s A Faithful Version. Let’s read …

Exodus 14:13-14 AFV

[13] And Moses said to the people, “Fear not! Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord which He will work for you today, for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you shall never see them again!

[14] The Lord shall fight for you, and you shall be still.”

God Works for Us

I honestly didn’t think of our Nougat as a reminder that God is working for us. I did notice that God is at work (to fight is to work, as is securing our salvation), but it feels more personal when I read it here.

Other verses indicate God works ‘for us’, like Romans 8:28. But even those verses can shift the subject, causing us to miss God at work for us. What we normally read is, All things work together for the good of those who love God. In reading, we could forget to ask ourselves, Who is it that works to make all things good on behalf of those who love God? I believe that we know this implicitly, but when we read with that answer at the forefront of our hearts, we see God and our situations differently.

Self-Check

How does knowing that God is at work to effect our salvation change how we see challenges or problems?

Deeper Dive

Back in the day, it wasn’t uncommon to see signs on the road stating, ‘PWD. Men at Work’. When we saw those signs, we all knew it actually meant, Public Works Department Do Not Disturb. Most times, we didn’t need that detour sign telling us to wait or go around them when safe. We did it automatically. And we knew that whatever they were doing – fixing a broken pipeline, repairing a pothole, or whatever else they did – it was for the sake of improving something that was broken. In the same way, when we realise that God is working for our salvation, we ought to pause, praise, and wait for the sign to go ahead.

Sometimes, the PWD recognised the problem first, but oftentimes they were responding to our complaints … er – reports. Likewise, we sometimes may feel like we have to report our situation to God multiple times, while there are moments that are as though God anticipated the issue and resolved it before we could finish complaining. But, did we try Pause, Praise, Press – REPEAT?

YES, DEARS

Sometimes, when God is at work For Our Salvation, we may need to

– Pause: check whether God’s already moving those Egyptians.

– Praise: for God’s in control and knows exactly when and how to remove them

– Press (forward): only when and how God gives us the green light

REPEAT: as often as God says

Fear not.

Stand still

God is at work – for us

Points to Ponder

Pause

Praise

Go

Repeat

God is at work for us. Selah

May all we seek be found in Christ
