Nougat 13

Do we have a set routine with God? If not, consider today’s Holy Nougat (Otherwise, may it be a review)

“But when Daniel learned that the law had been signed, he went home and knelt down as usual in his upstairs room, with its windows open toward Jerusalem. He prayed three times a day, just as he had always done, giving thanks to his God.” ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭6:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Just as he had always done

It is argued that one should not be a creature of habit as it can have negative implications if someone wishes to do us wrong. And in one sense, this is too true. One needs only to consider the above, where Daniel’s routine was perhaps that which was used against him. Yet, Daniel persisted. For he KNEW what his priorities were. And this is the crux of our reflection today. On matters related to God and God’s will, having a routine is very important.

Establishing the routine

A routine is simply a series of actions that we follow on a regular basis. So, our morning routine might include praying, ablutions and preparing a meal. Persons often plan their activities around these routines.

To establish our routine thus requires a sense of what we wish to do; when we wish to do it; with whom and of course, pulling our instruments together.

What we wish to do?

Improve our relationship with Jesus Christ by spending intentional time with Him in reading and prayers.

When we wish to do?

Most recommend first thing in the morning; to set the tone for the day. We note Daniel recommends Thrice daily, like meals (Jesus is our daily bread)

With Whom?

We might opt for a combination: alone as well as with others. Both are important. We strengthen each other, hold ourselves accountable, and we separate to make our own time with Jesus.

What we need?

I strongly recommend having our Bible (the real hard copy or online version such as YouVersion), devotional material, note taking material and, where desired, music. These help us in ensuring that we not only meet with Jesus; but we also apply what we learn.

Now some of us have need to re-establish a routine with God. That’s fine. It can be our revolution instead of a failed resolution. What are we waiting for – it’s time to establish our routine with God.
