Ever wondered whether you matter to God? Consider today’s Holy Nougat
“But if any man love God, the same is known of him.” 1 Corinthians 8:3 KJV
In this context, love refers to the all-encompassing agape that takes pleasure in, wishes well, and holds in high esteem. ‘Known’, is in reference to learning gained from personal experience. And though the nougat reads ‘man’ in the KJV, the original Greek is ‘one’ or ‘person’. Therefore we can honestly say whoever takes pleasure in God and holds God in high esteem will experience God personally.
It is worth noting that God already knows us intimately. Psalm 139 corroborates this. And while I cannot presume to speak definitively for the writer, I would suggest that this knowledge comes from the mutual esteem between us and God. Or, as one songwriter puts it, It’s so good when you love somebody and that somebody loves you back.
So in those moments when we feel a bit forsaken, I pray we remember that God not only created us and loved us first, but also seeks to be known by us in all fullness. May this be a comfort to us all.
