Today’s Holy Nougat may not apply to you if you’re at the end of your ministry career. Otherwise, dig in, there’s some bit just for you.
“The musicians were appointed to their term of service by means of sacred lots, without regard to whether they were young or old, teacher or student.” 1 Chronicles 25:8 NLT
Wow
They had enough temple musicians that they were able to rotate staff – without repetition – for TWO years! Can you imagine having so many church workers that everyone was rostered for service according to their gifts and skills and they only served once a quarter? So each person/group serves for one month and has the assurance that the assignment (nursery, church school, choir, music, ushers, elders for communion, offertory, cleaning, etc.)?
Can you just imagine how radical that would be if we all aspired towards the diaconate ministry and recognized the importance of same? Of course, that requires our recognizing the preacher’s need to be about the business of preaching and perhaps overseeing within the five-fold ministry model. For that is what realized the anointing of the seven deacons pressed to service in the early church (Acts 6:1-5).
It is worth noting that the mantle of God’s glory was so strong upon one of The Seven that he moved from regular diaconia into apostleship in mere moments. That was not the case with everyone. And though his ministry seems to have been prematurely aborted by death; Saul was converted shortly after that impactful stoning, thus changing the course of spiritual history for several unbelievers in his day!!)
So here’s the question – are you actively engaged in ministry wherever you worship? If yes, invite the Lord to anoint you for even greater impact through the diaconate/apostolic ministries based on your current ministry role. If no – What are you waiting for? God has a Help Wanted/Vacancy notice posted in your place of worship. Yup. And when you volunteer, you have the potential to be impacted by and to impact ministry beyond your wildest expectations!!! Yes. God is calling YOU today.
You might be a musician, fighting the battle with Praise. Or you might be a temple worker, a deacon, evangelist or a preacher – only God knows. Today, resolve to be part of the accounted for in worship. Let’s not leave it to the faithful few. For, I’m told, the difference between The Called and The Chosen is that the Chosen acknowledged God’s call and made themselves totally available.
