How do we respond to God’s promises and gifts to us?
Here’s Today’s Holy Nougat™
So give me the hill country that the Lord promised me. You will remember that as scouts we found the descendants of Anak living there in great, walled towns. But if the Lord is with me, I will drive them out of the land, just as the Lord said.” Joshua 14:12 NLT
It’s interesting that when presented with an option of where to live in the Land promised to him by God, Caleb chose the Hill country. Yet, although reminiscent of Lot’s response to Abraham when those two parted company; Caleb’s motives were somewhat different.
It is possible that the Hill country was much more fertile and arable; BUT it was also occupied. The Anakim were great in stature. Goliath is said to have descended from them. Was the hill country worth the challenge of living alongside, or driving out the Anakim?
There are times when we also make it to our spiritual spaces of Promise and are asked by the Lord, “Where to?” We may find that instead of a Problem-free zone, we find ourselves in a space of milk, honey and spiritual Anakim. How readily do we respond, “Give me the Hill Country, for if God be with me, then what is mine, will be mine”?
Could it be that our refusal/unwillingness to tackle the giants and drive them out of our situation belies a lack of faith in our God who is able to do abundantly more than we could ever ask, hope for, or imagine? [WOW! I don’t think I saw that comment coming. Thanks Lord, for that revelation].
Let’s not lose the battle for the war, nor the forest for fear of a few trees. If God takes us to the Promised Land, it is our faith which will be the key to unlocking the gates of the City. In faith, we opt for the Hill country; flourishing and protected by the One who is ABLE to keep us from Falling.
