Nougat 13

Greetings

Several sisters and brothers in the Faith have been undergoing severe seasons of testing. And there are others who have been somewhat silent while hoping for the breakthrough that will help to overcome… How do we go forward? Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™

The night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep, fastened with two chains between two soldiers. Others stood guard at the prison gate. Acts of the Apostles 12:6 NLT

I must confess that I not familiar with what entails for maximum security prisons today, but this description of Peter’s situation suggests that he was being held in a first century version of a maximum security lockup. Chained to not one, but TWO soldiers, with others prayed to be on watch for three hour shifts!!! We’re not talking about jailers like the one who was responsible for Paul and had his own quarters away from the stocks. These were trained mercenaries who would have been armed and dangerous. They maimed first and asked questions after.

Where then was God when all this was happening? Didn’t God care that Peter was sentenced to certain and sure death? How could God be God and allow this!? Hmmmn, the questions I’m sure could go on and on. In fact, I’m certain that some of us would rather denounce God for this. And yet Peter’s recourse on the eve of his trial was sleep. I’m not quite certain how one sleeps while being bound, but Peter certainly managed. Isn’t that something?

This Nougat therefore is a reminder to us, that in the worst of circumstances we are able to rest securely in the knowledge that God is in control. This could have been the trial which would have resulted in Peter’s crucifixion. He chose to rest on the assurance that God was in control. With all the arguments and false evidence being gathered against him, Peter had every reason to be afraid. He chose to rest on the assurance that God was in control. At any point while sleeping, Peter’s body could have twitched, causing one of the swordsmen to retaliate. He chose to rest on the assurance that God was in control.

What is your potential reality? Potential, because if it’s in the future, anything can shift; in a mere moment. Where is your future seeking to point to death, damnation or destruction? Will you choose to rest on the assurance that God is in control?
