Hi
I jumped out of a nightmare. Thank you Lord, it was a dream. Unfortunately, for many their dream moments are far safer than their wakened realities.
As Christians, what do we do about such? It sounds very cliche but that’s time to pray.
Here’s today’s nougat
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. Ephesians 6.18
After defining what comprises the armor for the constant spiritual battle, the Pauline writer encourages us to pray with prayer AND supplication IN the Spirit. Wow!
That’s some serious directives. I think it is intended to heighten our sense of how real the battle is. For, we are told to prostrate ourselves to be in petition mode with Christ, the olive branch, as the proof of our earnestness in making our spiritual appeal; readily allowing the Holy Spirit to guide our petitions.
Supplication is some serious prayer business folks! This isn’t about the “Amen Corner” only (those little biddies who enlivened the service with a well- timed amen; or the mature intercessors, who run the congregation on their knees); this is about you and me discerning that prayer is a full-time occupation.
It’s more than P.U.S.H, Pray Until Something Happens, for it’s about recognizing that we’re the response team at ground zero. Dehsij (pronounced dehaysis) is entreating prayer. It’s the Jacob response to the angel; I’m not letting go until you bless me. But, it’s not a self-proscribed prayer; because it’s done in the Spirit. (See Romans 8.26). In short, we running a covert operation In broad daylight. And
We’re leaving no one behind.
For the verse continues to say we not only covering ourselves, but we being attuned to the Holy Spirit’s prompting, continue resolutely in prayer and supplication (Because we KNOW that the Devil don’t take vacation) for others.
I think before I tackle supplication, I need to confess that I have not been as intentional in watching out for the spiritual welfare of the saints.
But, it’s not too late. It’s time to cover myself and the saints, known and unknown, in some serious prayer.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
