This evening I noticed a totally grande fir all decorated for the season three houses from mine. Prior to this, I surely had not noticed a tree in their front yard, so I was totally shocked. Despite my surprise, the tree beckoned. Gaily decorated with one color scheme with enough lights to draw attention, yet not enough to be gaudy. A very delicate balance of lights and ornaments. A job well done.
I invite us to hold that concept as we partake of today’s Holy Nougat™:
John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. John 1:8 NLT
None of us is the Light of God. However, as people of the Way, followers of Christ, and heirs to God’s promise; we are called to bear witness TO The Light. As reflectors of God’s Light, we ought to shine in such a way that others are drawn to God’s awesome glory and grace.
The tree down the road was a Living Testimony to the Season. The ornaments, lights and ‘newness’ invited folks like me to take notice of a tree which had obviously blended in with the scenery. Likewise, with the Holy Spirit feeling within us upon confession of faith in Jesus, we move from nondescript to attractive; drawing others to the light of Christ.
But first, we recognize that we are drawn to God’s love, which is passionately removing the mess and junk in our lives. And when we realize all that good has in store for us, we just might share our experience with another seeker. Can you imagine the role effect when each of us bears witness to God’s glory?!
As we engage the week ahead, might we identify areas of our life where God’s Light is turning things around; and might we also bear witness to the Lord.
Thanks for joining us for the divinely prepared meal. May God’s blessings light your path along the Way.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
