Nougat 12

Hi dear

There’s nothing like division to destroy the witness of the body of Christ. Okay, maybe a few other things. But division is a strong contender. Sometimes, the division is located elsewhere; but all children of God are usually impacted. Today’s Holy Nougat offers us hints to unity.

“make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.” Philippians‬ ‭2:2‬ ‭NRSV‬‬

Firstly, we note that although it is the writer of the letter who would be made happy; we would definitely be making our Creator happy.

Moreover, we are called to be united in thought and purpose, or as another version says, we ought to be at one in spirit, love and purpose. A pretty tall order. For, while we are somewhat united in our decision to follow Christ, our outworking of the decision are varied.

Take the current pandemic for example; we have multiple theories about the root cause and how it ought to be managed. And, to be fair, each person is entitled to their own opinion on this matter. Nevertheless, as the body of Christ, we diminish our visible witness (and even our credibility) when we fail to respect our differences in opinion.

And that’s where the love comes in. For when we disagree IN LOVE our actions tend to reflect less harshness towards each other. And, in a time when the world seeks answers and solid direction, our testimony needs to reflect unity in diversity.

And that unity remains with us as long as we are tapped into Christ. For it is by God’s grace alone that we can get along. So let’s appeal to God’s Spirit to help us realize our goal of unity, especially during this crisis. Of course, it also requires us being willing.

So that’s it my dears. Our unity points to Christ, corrects us in love and bears testimony of our faith. May the annals of history find us faithful.
