In a time when ‘fake news’ seems to be the order of the day, when we can’t determine Fact from Propaganda; it is a relief to know God’s Spirit. As Truth; God’s Spirit provides that Direct Link to Jesus Christ; the Way, the Truth and the Life. Here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.” John 14:17 NLT

The Spirit of God leads us into ALL Truth!

In the original, we are told that God’s Spirit IS Truth. This is somewhat different from leading us to ALL Truth. For a few verses prior, Jesus described Himself as the Truth. So how did we get from Jesus as Truth (v. 6), to God’s Spirit as Truth (v. 14), to the transliteration of the Spirit leading us TO ALL Truth?

This description is the first of its kind in John’s gospel (it also features in chapters 15 and 16); and reappears in 1 John. In John 15 we’re assured that the Holy Spirit – God’s Spirit – originates from God’s and testifies about Jesus. Embedded there is one clue – because God’s Spirit originates from God as does Jesus; that which God’s Spirit reveals is directly from God. That is, undiluted facts or Truth.

Further, we are told in John 16, that it is God’s Spirit that presents the Truth of God’s perfection before us. In so doing, humanity becomes aware of our sins. (I recognize this is my interpretation of conviction of sin; but we must have a mark in order to miss it; we recognize and are convicted OF sin because of righteousness). Later, in verse 13 we find God’s Spirit also reveals what occurs in the heavenlies and prepares us for things to come. This suggests that proof of the Spirit’s presence is found in the fulfillment of prophecy.

As the revelatory member of the Trinity, God’s Spirit is not only Truth (the Fact of what happened, happens and will happen); but God’s Spirit points the way to God’s Truth. We cannot fully separate the One from the Other. And, when convicted OF the Truth, we will find that we are drawn closer to God and into a more fulfilling relationship with Jesus Christ. That is the Spirit’s purpose. And when we’re bombarded on all sides and overwhelmed by doubts and fears; it is to God’s Spirit we turn for direction, clarity, peace and truth.

So, how do we access this Truth? Jesus assured us that in accepting Him, we have access to God’s Spirit. For it is God’s Spirit Who brings us into this intimacy with Jesus. When we ask for revelation of God’s Truth; we confirm through the Word and the fulfillment of prophecy.

May God’s Spirit add further light that clarifies in our seasons of uncertainties.

May all we seek be found in Christ
