Dear siblings

I haven’t yet figured if I went to the Knock-off store or if I was simply trying to see what would happen if I tampered with my designer suit, but my outfit was ruined! And the worst part, I realized and had the opportunity to change my wardrobe, and chose to remain in my ruined outfit. By the time I’m finally coming to my senses, it’s late.

Note siblings this is not just about me – in sharing with you, I actually don’t look good. My outfit doesn’t look glam – it doesn’t reflect Christ. But that’s also why I’m sharing with you all. Because we all have the potential to mess up. And when we do, it is important that we make reparations, and that we accept that we messed up our outfits.

So Lord, help us shake off the old wardrobe and choose to wear that which you offer. Forgive our foolishness, redeem us please. In the name of Y’shua, amen.

Colossians 3:12 NLT

[12] Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

Humility

After yesterday’s wardrobe malfunction, I don’t know that I’m best positioned to speak about humility. For when tenderhearted mercy and kindness are deliberately trampled and destroyed, it’s likely that humility also perished in the wardrobe.

You see, humility isn’t about proving ourselves right in the sight of others; it is about being right in God’s sight. Because when I know who I am in Christ, there’s no need to bang and brag and boast about it. Rather, in knowing who and whose we are in Christ – sinners saved by grace, grafted into God’s family – we ought to be able to see the others around us in like manner.

Remember Romans 12? – “… Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves ….” ‭‭What God desires of us believers is the willingness to see God in ourselves and each other, thereby realizing that we’re no better or worse than any other. Thus our experiences – good and bad – offer opportunities to share and experience God’s grace.

Self-Check

– Have I been thinking of myself more highly than I ought? Why/not

– Could the act/lack of humility be pointing to something more profound in my life spiritually

Application/Consideration

Having received a promotion at someone else’s detriment, or been the beneficiary of uncommon favour, do we

A. Decide that it’s proof that we are ‘better than’ others?

B. Ensure that the whole world knows and experiences negatively the effects of our favour, rather than God’s grace?

C. Open doors for others – strangers and close ones – because that’s what God did for us?

Assignment

If we find we have had a wardrobe malfunction, pause, repent, seek God’s forgiveness and make restitution. I have to go do that, and I guarantee that it will be humble pie

May all we seek be found in Christ
