Recently WhatsApp added a wonderful ‘Delete’ feature which allows us to retract a statement posted in error. Of course, it only works if the other party has not yet read the message. Do you ever wish for a retract button for something you spoke out loud? Hmmm What would it look like? Today’s Holy Nougat does not offer a retract button, but invites us to be conscious of our conversations.

Never thought so consciously about the impact of ‘bad mouthing’. That it takes glory away from God’s creation. Ironically, sometimes the creation being diminished is ourselves. Even then, we, through our untamed tongues, trample all over God’s purposes and plans for the diminished but more so for ourselves.
Consider … the power of life and death are in what we speak – Proverbs 18:21. Remember; God spoke and it was so. Bearing God’s likeness … (thank God our God has override)! But we cannot forget that there is condemnation awaiting the judging tongue should God’s elect choose to go the route of Isaiah 54:17.
It’s not easy to only bless God in times of provocation but doing so is better for our spiritual health. And thinking it without saying it is also offensive to God. (Sometimes that is what spurs particularly horrid actions – suppressed speech).
Are we needing to pause right now and seek God’s forgiveness? I do.

Creating God,
Forgive our misdirected and untamed tongues. Cleanse our hearts since we speak from the abundance therein (Matthew 12:34), and fill our hearts with Your love. For You, ourselves and others. Reprogram our minds so that it redirects the old patterns of diminishing others to finding the positive. Help us to be agents of healing and transformation hereafter we pray dear Lord, amen
