But he said, “Don’t delay me. The Lord has made my mission successful; now send me back so I can return to my master.” Genesis 24:56 NLT
They were only hoping to extend the hospitality for a bit. And say their proper goodbye to Rebekah. Abraham’s servant was having none of it.
We could spend time evaluating Laban’s character, and his possible motives; but what about the servant? He had every reason to accept the hospitality since the journey would have taken its toll on him. But he CHOSE to operate with that sense of urgency and respect for his master’s business. Excellent! Yes, Abraham was advanced in years. Yes, the desire was for him to complete the job so Abraham could see Isaac’s bride. But honoring his master’s wishes was A CHOICE he made.
What about us? Are we calling to honor our Master’s wishes? Are we even attuned to our Master’s purpose for our lives in this season? Do we nurture a sense of urgency about obeying our Master? How faithful are we? Are we operating with integrity?
Lord
Help us to get back on course, forgive our delays. Equip us once again for the task and the journey we pray, in Jesus’s name Amen
