Jacob’s life meant everything and nothing at that point. Need tricked his brother, his twin and had to leave home abruptly. On his first night out, he has a vision from God which tells him that God cared about him even in his mess.
The vision was so impactful that he covenanted with God. . The some monument seemed as Witness and Reminder of Jacob’s faith.
It served as Witness to Jacob’s vote to worship God with a ONE TENTH OF EVERYTHING he received through God; and as a Reminder of Jacob’s expectation of God’s direction, provision, and protection in his time away from his home.
So my dears, when we escape a harrowing experience; we should also set a Reminder; and allow it to bear Witness of God’s grace.
Part of Jacobs promise to God included offering a tithe on EVERYTHING God blessed him (Jacob) with.
Could it be that when we encounter God after a life-harrowing experience, we ought to freely give back to God, without murmuring or counting the cost?
Much to chew on. Heaven help us honor our promises to God!
