Hi
Ever felt a nudge to do something more with our lives? Perhaps today’s Holy Nougat is what God is nudging us about
“And don’t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God.” Hebrews 13:16 NLT
Hmmm
Can you imagine forgetting to do good? It sounds impossible, people don’t just forget – it’s a choice we make. True; until someone does us wrong and all our good intentions fly swiftly out the window. Or an emergency comes up and our plans are suspended temporarily and eventually they are totally forgotten. And, as for sharing – whether with those in need or otherwise; some of us require an appointment with our consciences to be inclined to share.
But we are on a mission to serve God; to go beyond our nature and do the impossible. Perhaps our impossible is to please God. And pleasing God includes doing good especially when it is not convenient, or feasible. What about when our ‘enemy’ is the one in need? When the person God asks us to help is one who hurt us?
How do we share with others in need? Are we known for our generosity or for being parsimonious? Sometimes we are only open to sharing or helping if there’s a news crew watching us. (You know like when folks take pictures of gifts and post online to show how generous we are)! Wrong motives; even when our actions are seemingly laudable.
Today I urge us to be open to the move of God’s Spirit to be agents of change through doing good or by our giving.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
