Nougat 11

Even as the righteous are told to worship YHWH our God, so too is the rest of the world. The reason offered, as before is connected to God’s God-ness. Consider Today’s Holy Nougat.

Psalms 33:9 NIV

[9] For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.

And It Was So

We may have noticed that the pattern of the language in our Nougat is reminiscent of Genesis 1. There, we are told that Elohim commanded (Amar), and it became reality. That pattern is repeated throughout the Creation story, as proof of God’s power over chaos. The same phrase is used in the Nougat, and it is repeated for emphasis. For truly, it is all by God’s spoken word.

Self Check

To what extent do we believe in the power of God’s Word?

Digging Deeper

John concretizes this premise with the assertion that opens the Gospel: In the beginning was the Word and the word was God and the Word was with God. We know that John refers to Y’shua, the Word incarnate. With that assertion, John seals the presence of the entire Trinity at Creation.

Should we accept John’s premise, it becomes apparent that fearing and reverencing God includes Y’shua and God’s Spirit. Whether all the nations accept it or not, it is the basis of the faith that we confess. Because, in accepting, believing, and confessing Jesus as God’s only begotten and resurrected Son, we accept that He is the incarnate Word.

No wonder Jesus commended the centurion’s simple confession (see Matthew 8:5-13 and Luke 7:1-10). For the centurion understood the power of the spoken word, especially from the ultimate power Source. Yet, it was the bone of contention among the Jewish leaders who didn’t accept Christ’s divinity (see Luke 11:14-38). Their skepticism is a type of confirmation for us, for Christ’s divinity was contrary to their beliefs.

Ultimately, worshipping God, lifting that praise song up to Heaven is what we ought to confess. What then do our lives say we believe?

Point to Ponder

Is God’s Word firmly rooted in our hearts? Why/not? Is God creating new things in our lives?

May all we seek be found in Christ
