Nougat 11

A line in the hit song says, ’Wish I had wings that I could fly … half the world away.’ If you could fly anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Sometimes it’s not wings we need, just the resolve to do and be. Consider today’s Holy Nougat

“Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what he taught. There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.”” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭10:39, 42‬ ‭NLT

She dared to leave the confines of the house to enter the male enclave, because she was hungry. Not for food; she had just left the food prep behind. She was trusting Jesus’ words from the sermon on the Mount – that her hunger and thirst after Jesus’ righteousness would be filled. She wasn’t seeking to start a revolution, she simply needed more.

Not refried snippets of conversation – she was choking on stale leftovers. Not what others said she should believe – she had already believed: in Jesus. And most definitely not someone’s interpretation of what Jesus said – He was in HER house talking! Why wait? What was there to lose, beyond that golden, holy opportunity? Nothing.

Without making a fuss, without drawing attention to herself, she simply went to listen to Jesus. No, she didn’t ask or tell her sister – she already knew how that would go (knowing their place had been repeatedly drilled in their heads)! If truth be told, she did not want to think about the propriety – she was no Proverbs 31 woman! She sought to be a direct disciple of Jesus.

She just sat

half a world away

– in her own house –

Among the men

And absorbed

Defying convention

Starting a revolution

Not seeking attention –

Well, not without reason

Just hungry

for a revelation from Jesus.

Mary

The woman who dared

To glean at Jesus’ feet

She sure set an example

for each God-chaser

To seek with body, mind and spirit

So we can find

Jesus

God-turned-human,

the greatest yearning of our hearts

Dwelling within, waiting to be found!

Would you like to be like Mary?

And where will you fly?
