Hi
Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™
If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. Matthew 16:25 NLT
Now this could sound like we shouldn’t consider life support machines because Jesus said trying to hang on to life shall result in loss of life. And while we’re in that space, let’s forget about medical advances for all those are temptations intended for us to lose our life eh.
But this comment was directed to Peter and the other disciples (and by virtue thereof to you and me, modern day disciples) after Peter had reprimanded Jesus for embracing the reality of the Cross He would die on.
Perspective
Big difference in meaning. For them this becomes a conversation about being willing to bear the shame, the pain, the burden … all for God’s glory.
Are we willing to be cursed, bruised, lied about, even persecuted, for the sake of Christ?
It might not come to that, as well it could. Have we counted the cost? What are we willing to lose for Christ’s sake? Do we truly love Christ more than employment, studies, family/life, social standing/per acceptance, political office, housing, food, etc? Could we willingly forfeit those if it came to that? What have we ever been tempted to “sell” our faith for? Would it really have been worth it?
If we love our lives too much … we could lose access to the Preserver of lives.
Counting the cost.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
