Nougat 11

The Holy Spirit is so vital to our everyday lives as believers, yet we often seem to ignore God’s Spirit. Today’s Holy Nougat offers us hope in this regard.

John 14:26 NIV

[26] But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Representative & Teacher

So often, it is challenging to grasp what Scripture says when we read it. Well, that’s my sentiment from time to time. Y’shua’s promise is this a comfort in those moments because I know that as God’s tangible presence in our lives guarantees instruction.

Self-Check

How often do we acknowledge God’s Spirit in our lives?

Application

As Advocate and Teacher, God’s Spirit is better than the best insurance policies. Most policies claim to cover most challenges we face. Sometimes, when Life happens, we might find we need an advocate to ensure we know our rights and what is legitimately due to us. If that isn’t your lot, be thankful, as there are people who’ve failed to receive their compensation. It can be very painful, as some of us scrimped to ensure their premiums were paid in a timely manner.

God’s Spirit, available 24/7, offers a much better plan. When we accept Y’shua’s lordship, God’s Spirit is part of the package. Therefore, we are not alone, Christ’s promise of Matthew 28:20 is fulfilled. God’s Indwelling Spirit means Y’shua is always with us. Moreover, God’s Spirit represents us to God, both when we are walking in God’s will and when we have transgressed. That is one advocacy role God’s Spirit offers.

We’re also assured that because God’s Spirit lives within, God’s Spirit understands us even better than we can imagine. Since advocacy is about representation, it means that our needs may get met even before we get around to asking. That’s what we’re promised in Isaiah 65. Before we call, God answers, and while we’re yet speaking, God’s got us covered.

And of course, there’s the element of teaching. It is God’s desire that we understand God’s ways and God’s plans for our lives. That is best effected through reading Scripture and prayer. Remember when the disciples failed to understand Y’shua’s parables, and He broke it down for them? God’s Spirit can do the same for us … if we ask. The question is, ‘Do we care to ask’?

Point to Ponder

Are we ensuring that we truly access all the benefits God’s Spirit offers? Or do we need to reassess our needs?

May all we seek be found in Christ
