Hello,

I remember a seminarian describing an impression of God as the Big Bad Guy waiting for someone to mess up and be zapped into utter Outer Darkness. A couple of centuries ago William Blake has a similar conviction based upon the off-putting approach of the Church. What is your own impression of Jesus Christ/the Trinity? And who/what had influenced this impression?

Food for thought, to accompany today’s Holy Nougat™

But that isn’t what you learned about Christ … Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Ephesians 4:20, 23 NLT

The absolutely best way to understand Christ is by entering into a relationship with Him, and allowing the Holy Spirit to provide revelation along the way. As we seek to confirm that it is the Holy Spirit who unveils the Truth regarding Jesus’s nature and love, we may find the the scriptures provides a critical backdrop against which aspects of His life and ministry unfolded.

In some instances, we receive secondhand (recounted) reports, and there are a few cases where we gain the perspective from an eyewitness. Knowing the facts about Christ may actually provide sufficient data to form an impression; perhaps even to convince us of His Divinity. But until we’ve MET Christ face-to-face (symbolically if not literally) and have come to our own knowledge of Who Christ is, then truly we’re seeing dimly through a glass.

And, once we’ve had that up-front-and-personal relationship going, we might find ourselves becoming keen to share such Absolute Love with others. Then, like that unnamed Woman by Jacob’s Well, we’ll drop everything to share the Good News in our Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and beyond.

So, how well do we know Jesus Christ?

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
