“These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and your joy may be full.” John 15:11 TLV
My dears, I don’t think I can stress how important it is to be personally grounded in the Word for ourselves.
Jesus saw the pain the disciples would experience at the death of their beloved master. He also knew that it would be a time of persecution, even to the extent of death or denial of faith by some followers. He ensured that they had the facts, so that they might make the necessary preparations. But, Jesus also wanted them to experience JOY in the face of trials.
What is rather interesting in the surrounding passage is that the URGENT PRESSING fact that Jesus thought they needed to know was about their IDENTITY in Christ. Yup! That was the essence – Christ, the True Vine, us the attached branches on that True Vine. For when we understand our identity in Christ, there’s little that should phase us; not even a deadly virus that brings the globe almost to a standstill. And it is the knowledge that we are abiding in Him during this special season that realizes joy for us. Unadulterated joy.
Total Joy.
Everlasting Joy.
Several have taken to preparing the Supper daily as a reminder of the completed act. For when we know who we are and Whose we are. We know that if He went the way of the Cross, died and rose triumphant, and ascended to heaven; Christ SHALL come again, and take us to be with Himself. That’s why we are joyful. So yes, the times are worrisome. But we have the facts. And those facts comfort us and keep us going through the storms.
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
