Hi

How have you been keeping?

Here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“Trouble and anguish have taken hold on me; Yet thy commandments are my delight.” Psalms 119:143 NLT

Intended as an acrostic, Psalm 229 is undoubtedly an unwavering display of love for God and the Word of God. Interestingly, it features little moments such as the one above which also suggest that this ode to God’s Word was written in the face of despair/disaster.

In my culture the proverb, ‘a drowning man will clutch at a straw’ translates to ‘when trouble ketch man, pikney shut fit ‘im!’ But this is not the psalmist’s response. Rather, s/he reaches out to The One in whom we all find life itself and strength to persevere. Having so done, the psalmist is even able to register delight in God’s commands.

Could it be that walking according to God’s Word, will and purpose keeps us going in times of distress and despair? Most definitely yes! For, we are reminded that nothing separates us from God’s love and that by virtue of God’s Love, we are overcomers; not undertaken by despair, doubt or distress. (Romans. And the blueprint for overcoming instead of being undertaken by distress, nakedness, peril or war comes from God’s Word. Hence, it is the Source of our delight.

So, whatever we face in this season – including trouble, anguish, peril, war or erupting volcanoes – let us, like the psalmist, draw comfort from God’s Word.

Shalom and Salam

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
