Hello, hello, hello
How’s your 2019 thus far? I pray that you choose to live in 2019 as Christ has called us. And that’s at the heart of today’s Holy Nougat
“For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love.” Galatians 5:13 NLT
Live … in an era when suicide is on the rise. Christ calls us to live in Him and the abundance of His Love. To die to self while being open to God’s direction and plans. I sometimes find it ironic that for Christians, ‘Living’ involves dying. It also struck me that ‘dying’ might also be misconstrued.
To die to self involves the voluntary decision of forfeiting one’s personal priorities in deference to God’s plans. It may involve a more simple lifestyle, forfeiting some attitudes or embracing people who once would not be part of one’s intimate circle. Of course, there’s more to it, but the act of devotion and obedience to Christ is key.
For, when we are attuned enough to hear and do/be; we will find that – despite the challenges which come with obedience – life takes on a different timbre and Joy ought to be part of our reality. Living and the desire to live is thus rooted in Christ and walking in Purpose. Outside of that, one might argue that we are merely existing.
One might be inclined to ask, ‘How then do I live?’ Here’s a thought-
- Recognize that one is merely existing by heeding God’s call
- Invite Christ in (and be intentional about allowing Christ’s perfection to illuminate the areas needing transformation)
- Establish a consistent prayer and devotional life – including one on one time with God
- Be open to literally hear God speak (through the gentle whisper in the heart, via the Word and/or through God’s servants)
- Having heard and confirmed God’s desires for one’s life; prayerfully obey
- Be quick to repent when wrong
- Continue to seek God’s face in prayer and praise
Today I pray that each of us will recall that we are called to live. Once we’re living and not merely existing, the rest is a bit easier.
