Hi
Has anyone you know been struggling with depression, or been undergoing what many would term a season of bad luck? Today’s Holy Nougat™ helps us put all that in perspective.
At about three o’clock, Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” which means “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”
Matthew 27:46 NLT
Just digest, rather savor, this Nougat for a moment. Jesus, the Son of God, OUR Messiah, cried out to God in anguish! What must He have been undergoing to utter such words!
Honestly; while those licks would have resulted in the early demise of a lesser man, others had survived it.
But the weight of total and yet removal from the sure and continuous Presence of God WHILE BEARING the totality of ALL OUR SINS – Now THAT should have crippled the essence of God-in-flesh!
Let’s remember; sin has no place in God’s presence. None at all. So in that split second, Jesus was as fully human as He could, would ever be. And His human self finally understood the most fearsome of all emotions (for me at least) – hopelessness and despair.
He tasted, touched, smelled and even breathed it in. And not long after, He breathed His last.
Because He’s been there; we KNOW that Jesus understands that feeling. There is a difference. Because He’s borne the weight of our sins and conquered Death, Depression and Hopelessness are no longer sources which we ought to succumb to. He can take us past it. Let’s give it over to Him.
We can give our own despair His way, or stand in the gap for someone else.
Can we? Let’s do it.
Lord,
You know. Help. Come now. Bring peace. Jesus have mercy. Amen
In Christ’s love and grace . . .
