‘I’d rather die on yonder gallows, than live in slavery.’ Deacon Samuel Sharpe, Jamaica

When last have we really counted the cost? Here in the English Caribbean, we celebrate the official end of legal trafficking in persons in the region (August 1,1838).

Have we counted the Cost? If you’re East Indian or Chinese, it may have resulted in your kin being taken in as part of the new labor force and if you’re White, then your kin might have lost labour, been devastated and lost their lives. If you’re Mixed (which most of us truly are), then ponder the struggles your ancestors experienced to overcome racial separatism.

As a Black Caribbean woman, I can’t help but be thankful that it all officially ended. Thus making many of the atrocities metered out to Blacks, women in particular, illegal. BUT …

Would I die for that freedom? Hhmmmm

Would I die for the freedom of others? Uh ….

Here’s today’s nougat

Yes, we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for GOOD WORKS, which God has already prepared for us. Ephesians 2:10

She was The Navigator, her mobile, the GPS. They got to their destination, and the android stopped functioning. No sound for TEN hours. She was ready to discard it. It was not fulfilling its purpose.

We have been purposed for Good Works in Christ Jesus. While we may be legitimately occupied with work; studies; play; making the (non)Mighty dollar stretch; or being members of sororities, fraternities, and other similar social groups: our CORE purpose in Christ may yet be unfulfilled.

Quick questions,

How does Isaiah 6:1-8; 61:1-5 or Matthew 25, become fulfilled in our daily reality? Is it at all incorporated in our lived experiences?

We are called to share the Good News that the Sun of God has ratified our freedom. But remember, several of Jesus’s sermons were living works, rather than spoken words.

Brings us right back to Deacon Samuel Sharpe and Jesus eh. Are we willing to die for freedom – of others? our own?

What are we purposed to do?

Be blessed.
