Happy new Year my dear

If you are reading this I congratulate you, you are among those who crossed over. It was a rocky road for many; but despite all else that happened along the way; we made it. Only God! On this note, please receive today’s Holy Nougat

“Samuel then took a large stone and placed it between the towns of Mizpah and Jeshanah. He named it Ebenezer (which means “the stone of help”), for he said, “Up to this point the Lord has helped us!”” 1 Samuel‬ ‭7:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In one sense, Samuel’s action has Nothing to do with us. The Israelites were in the midst of yet another battle with the Philistines. Once again, the Israelites were no physical match for the Philistines. And, given their idolatry, the outcome seemed secured.

But God

And that’s exactly our point. After 9 – 12 months of dealing with this virus; we are still here. Some of us a little worse for the wear, some badly scarred; but by God’s mercy we are here. And for many of us, this may become a rather memorable 1st of the year in our lives.

In the wider recounting, we may note that Israel’s defeat was assured Until they opted to forego the idols and returned to God. And, when they yielded to God’s direction, they overcame. Just as we can do/have done in this ‘battle’ with coronavirus or any other battle we may be facing.

You and I have overcome 2020. There may be lessons embedded therein for our consideration. But in this moment the chief lesson we take into the new year is that with God, rather by God’s mercy, we can face the battle.

As we mark the crossing over into this new year; let us also pause to honor Our God, Who brought us this far.
