Happy New Year!!!

To God be the glory, we made it! It is very good to begin the year with you. Thanks for the support and may our journey together find us growing stronger in Christ. I pray that we are overcome with a passion for Christ and our response to God’s call is swift and immediate. Here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“And they left their nets at once and followed him.” Matthew‬ ‭4:20‬ ‭NLT

What a response!

Yes the men were repairing their nets, which is a tedious task. But, unless someone else was around to finish the work, it means that they simply walked away from their livelihood to follow Jesus. For, those nets wouldn’t get cleaned by themselves and if left unattended, those nets would be useless! (Plus there might have been the threat of theft of whatever was left). Their response was radical!

But why drop everything for Christ?

Unlike us, who have the benefit of ‘hindsight’, the men would not have four gospels plus the Torah full of literature about Jesus. Nope. It is possible that they knew Him personally, had heard of his life prior to the beginning of His ministry, or had simply been bored.

But those are not necessarily sufficient to walk away from everything they were to follow Jesus. And with such haste!

Not at all.

That kind of haste came from personal conviction and a desire for something more.

More life!

Perhaps they were sick and tired of being sick and tired of the rut they found themselves in. Probably the authority with which Jesus spoke propelled them into action. Maybe they were curious about the lure Jesus used with them – they would be fishing for humans – sounds kinda weird. But ultimately, they sought something more.

More life!

And their action began the first noteworthy day of the rest of their lives! It was new year all over again.

Do we desire a memorable year? Are we also yearning for something more? (I am)! Today can be a very special new year, the first noteworthy day of the rest of our lives. Of course, like those men, we have to let go of our nets. Including our safety nets. We must be willing to drop everything and answer when Christ calls. I’m sick and tired of mediocre, and I need more life.
