“They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” John‬ ‭17:16‬ ‭TLV‬‬

If not here, then where?

And if not of this world, what is our purpose here?

Simply put – as followers of Jesus, our citizenship is in Heaven. We carry a different passport; bought in Jesus love for us all. That’s what the prayer was about. Of course, as citizens of Heaven, we’re bound by those laws – the Law of God’s Spirit and we present as inhabitants of our spiritual home.

Moreover, if we are presenting as inhabitants of Heaven, whether in mannerism or spirit, then our disposition should quickly distinguish us. We should have an accent; not so much on our voices, but it would/should be an action that says we are not from here. In our Heavenly language, it is called Love. And it is encompassed by Joy, Peace, Patience, Goodness, Gentleness, Faith, Kindness and Self-control (Galatians 2:22-23).

Of course, there are many posing with fake world accents; so it’s somewhat hard to identify us. For, in many instances where our accents should be pronounced – visible and recognizable to the world – we have been trying too hard to assimilate in this temporary home. It may be that we have misunderstood our mission.

As persons sent, we recognize firstly; our mission is TO or WITH people. They are not obliged to come to us. Nor are we called to be in disguise; we go in our God nature (ie the Fruit and Works of God’s Spirit), creating impact wherever we go. It may be brief, made visible by a word or deed, but others should experience our Heavenly accent. And if/when our accent is impactful, others will draw nigh. That’s why Jesus said we should let our lights (our actions/accents) shine so that others desire to change their citizenship to Heaven also (Matthew 5:16)

So how about that – we are citizens of Heaven. And we’ve been sent while on earth to impact others to gain Heavenly citizenship also.

Ready for our mission? Ask God for an assignment (we’re already assigned several)

Not sure what our mission is; or how to effect it? God’s Spirit will confirm when we ask.

May all we seek be found in Christ
