Nougat 1

Ever had a bad hair day? (I can write a book on that!) What about a bad work day? (I suspect that might have more resonance.) If you honestly identify with the latter or identified with it, I pray that you are able to receive today’s Holy Nougat

“And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”

2 Corinthians 9:8 NIV

Having read and reread this nougat, I think I should place this in prominent places AND on my heart; just for the moments when I or someone else needs it. What an encouragement for us today! I am warmed by it.

To abound is to exist in very large quantities; however in the biblical text it relates to perisseúō; which can mean exceed, go beyond the expected measure or surpass. Thus, the blessing can also be read that we excel, succeed in every good work. Moreover, the direct sense in which this is written relates to ANYTHING we find ourselves occupied with; not necessarily paid employment only. So we see this as a direct pronouncement over all we do; both as our avocation and our hobbies or routine.

For some of us, this is hard to imagine. We cannot see what we do as ‘good work’; we don’t excel at it; or we are overwhelmed by the lack of PAID work. And all those are truly valid.

But what if God desires More?

What if this nougat were true? Could God be seeking to bless us in our work, to the extent that we can describe it (the work) as ‘good’? Maybe we ought to change the lens we use to determine what makes for success as well as for defining ‘good work’. It could be that we have been using someone else’s definitions and determinings. Or, if our own, we probably ought to invite God to realign our vision – to see the work as honorable; to begin to exceed (succeed), AND (where it applies), to identify paid work that is good.

So, if like me, you’ve experienced bad work days; chin up. Rather – Look Up [Lift Our Outlook & Knowledge Uttering Praises] to God;

Who Sees ALL;

Who Knows ALL things and

Who desires that we SUCCEED in ALL we do!
