Nougat 1

We continue to reflect on King Saul’s life as we consider Today’s Holy Nougat

1 Samuel 16:18 NIV‬

[18] One of the servants answered, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.”

The Lord is with Him/You

Yesterday, we read of Saul’s demise in the way of what we’d probably term manic depression. The Nougat ended with the recognition that music could offer a cure. Though it wasn’t the focus of our reflection (since we looked at “God’s evil spirit), we find that the quest for a cure placed David in Saul’s orbit.

This is a bit of dramatic irony because we readers are aware that David has been anointed as Saul’s replacement. That occurred only 5 verses prior! Neither Saul nor his advisors were aware of that. But somehow, David became the subject of the Royal conversation.

Only God.

Siblings,

There are times when Life is Lifing, and we’re caught off guard. In those moments, we hold steadfast to God, trusting that God’s Spirit and presence are with us.

Then there are other times …

Those moments when we’re elevated, we get promoted, we’re discovered, and we have no idea how we got to that place in life.

Only God

David couldn’t have known that that servant of Saul would choose to promote him as a candidate for a job that hadn’t yet been advertised.

He couldn’t have asked for the servant to put a word in at the King’s Palace, as the diagnosis was not yet public.

Saul wouldn’t have ‘hired’ David to play for him, knowing that David was his understudy and replacement.

But

The Lord was with David.

And the Lord is with you and me. God’s Spirit works behind the scenes on our behalf even when we can’t see what’s happening. When the time is right, God will promote us. James said it succinctly, ‘Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.’ (See James 4:10).

When the Lord is with us, we don’t have to plot and scheme. It may not always go in our immediate favour (it took David several years to sit on the throne as king,and there were rough patches in the midst), but we are assured that God’s got us covered. I commend to us Psalm 46:10 Be still and acknowledge that God is in control, as we ensure that God’s Spirit remains with us in all our undertakings.

The Lord of Hosts is with us. The God of David is our refuge.

Do remember that Yah created ALL things. Look at Isaiah 45 verse 7. Really not that confusing. He is the author of all things. Remember that Yah created the world good, and He created humans to do good. However, He also gave humans the ability to choose, known as free will. This means that even though humans were created to do good, they can also choose to do the opposite of good, what we have termed evil.
