Bittersweet moment for persons enslaved in the English speaking Caribbean. Technically, the Emancipation proclamation now offered ‘Full Free’ for all; but only the planters were compensated (for their loss of capital). Ironically, payments to families of the plantocracy continued up to three years ago; not even the payment of an apology was forthcoming to the blacks!

Being enslaved removes rights, privileges and (often) denies humanity. Freedom for many, has been long in coming. There are many who are still enslaved as Trafficking in Persons (TiP) is a billion dollar industry, spanning the globe much like the ‘TransAtlantic Triangular Trade’ of humans (for goods and sundry items). But there is hope.

On that note, here’s today’s Holy Nougat

“Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.” Galatians 4:7 NLT

Can we identify what held us bound prior to Our manumission in Jesus Christ? It may be individually different for each of us, but ultimately, we were slaves to sin. Thanks be to God, in Christ we have Full Frer! Let us embrace it. We might not be walking in total awareness of our freedom, but yes! We are (spiritually) Full Free! As ones who have been broken free from the ‘things’ which spiritually enslave us, perhaps we can offer the opportunity for sweet freedom to others – and the remuneration package offered to those who choose freedom in Christ Jesus! What joy!

And, where possible, if we become aware of literal cases of Modern Day enslavement of persons, let us find ways to agitate for their freedom.

A little reminder of our privileges as followers of Christ

In Christ’s love and grace . . .
