Here’s today’s Holy Nougat™
Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed his last. Luke 23:46 NLT
* Will you entrust your spirit to me?
¬ You sure You want me to do that at this point in my life Lord?
* Definitely. Why would I be uncertain?
¬ B-b-b-b-but Lord, you realize I not dead? And hopefully I’m not about to die? You trying to tell me something Lord? Even now, I ask forgiveness for all my sins, great and small. Lord, do I have to name all of them since I’m going to die soon? Can i just do one repentance prayer?
* You are welcome to repent. But we’re not talking about death. We’re talking about OUR relationship. And whether you would trust me with your spirit?
¬ Well … er. Uhm. What-exactly-does-entrusting entail?
* Exactly that. Trusting me with your spirit. That part of you which governs your thoughts and actions. Giving ME unlimited access to your life, so that i may do as I need to. You know; entrust. Or commit
¬ But Lord, I’m kinda comfortable with our present relationship.
Don’t You think it’s enough?
I read my Bible. I tell my friends about you. Sometimes a few strangers. I pray.
I even come to you when I’m not in trouble. That’s pretty good Lord, isn’t it?
* So you want a part-time relationship? That’s it?
You are fine with me just fixing things and checking in one in a while?
Wouldn’t you like to discuss decisions with me or perhaps allow me to open doors for you and to plan how your life should unfold?
¬ Now that You phrase it like that, it sounds so cold and calculating.
But sometimes my thoughts and even my actions are a little … uhm … You know
If I entrust my spirit to You, You’d know all about the things I’d rather not have You or anybody else know about me.
* But if you allow ME to take control of YOUR spirit, you would not need to hide ANYTHING. From Me or anyone else.
And, just so you know – I DO know those things you’d rather hide. It pains me to see you hurt yourself like that; but I already know.
I’m hoping you’re willing to be honest with Me. Like, REAL. You know.
¬ You make it sound so easy to just up and hand over to You like that.
* Well; when My Son, your Saviour Jesus, handed HIS Spirit over to my care, He was expecting that His human self would be totally conformed with His God-self. Remember, In that moment, Jesus was going to die, be buried; descend into hell; restore the spiritual order and then be raised from the dead as proof of his sovereignty in MY Kingdom.
Yes; He was totally God. But it was His very human self that died on Calvary. And it was Jesus the human who spoke to me. Flesh and Blood just like you. Think you’re willing to take that leap of Faith with Me?
¬ Uh …
[That final answer is up to You! Each of us has to make THAT decision. So; what’s it going to be?] Selah
