Have you ever stopped to think about how nature worships God? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat.
““Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.” King Herod was deeply disturbed when he heard this, as was everyone in Jerusalem.” Matthew 2:2-3 NLT
Even the Star
I can hear it in my mind as if it were recently on the local radio, ‘This is your horoscope. Know your future with the stars.’ Astrology, stargazing, horoscopes, fortune telling … all fall in a category that sounds more like idolatry than worship of YHWH. Yet, it was the stars that led the Magi to Y’shua Jesus.
Self-Check
What is your take on astrology and fortune telling? Does it detract from worshipping God?
Application
God can use anything to help another soul find their identity in God. We’ve seen a rod being part of God’s evidence, although those who saw it weren’t convicted. There was also a speaking donkey that almost got killed by its greedy master. He also was far enough souled out to mammon that he did not wholly repent. Yet, amidst the stars lay the clue to our Messiah.
Siblings, this is a reminder that it is not so much how we start; rather, it is what we do with those humble or questionable beginnings. That star stood out enough to garner the attention of Gentile philosophers and stargazers and mobilise them to go in search of the Messiah. That same star observed protocol, putting Herod on notice that The King of the Jews was born.
Even the star was obedient to God’s plans and purposes. It directed those who wished to see and follow to the land of the promise fulfilled, just like the pillar of fire directed the Children of Israel hundreds of years prior. For many, the star was a tool of idolatry, and still is. For those hungry for God, it was life-giving.
Inasmuch as the simple star could point those men to Jesus, so can we. Our lives can be the testimony to another that they’re not alone, that God sees, hears, and cares. Our lives can tell others that there’s another way, God’s way. Of course, it means that like the star, we must be yielded wholly to God.
Point to Ponder
To what extent can we make a claim to God like the worshippers in the video? May the stars move us to total praise of Y’shua.
