When last have you stopped to think about gifting God just because? Has it been a while? Just in case you needed a reminder, consider Today’s Holy Nougat.
2 Samuel 7:1-2 CEB
[1] When the king was settled in his palace, and the LORD had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies,
[2] the king said to the prophet Nathan, “Look! I’m living in a cedar palace, but God’s chest is housed in a tent!”
When the Going is Good
We’re all familiar with the phrase, when the going gets tough. For those amongst us who are not, it says when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. In short, it suggests that in times of adversity, persons who are physically and psychologically strong lead the way. It has been the mantra for many, sometimes offering hope to those who need a little boost in tough times.
Self-Check
Where do we find encouragement when the going gets tough?
Application
The wisdom at hand, though based on the mantra, is not about the tough times. Rather, our Nougat invites us to think critically about what happens when the going is good. Now, David was for certain, a tough guy. He’s the epitome of the concept warrior-king. Not because he was out spoiling for a fight, but his faith in God afforded him great war tactics that resulted in many victories for Israel.
Israel’s major battles at that time were over, his throne was not under threat, and David needed to discern his what next. David had time to think, and his first major thought was about what would please his God. He put God as his chief priority.
Can you imagine what the world would experience of every Christian, every true believer prioritised God when the going is good? I believe it would be awesome – just as our God desires the world to be. And it has the potential to start with you and me.
Have you figured the end of the new mantra as yet? My proposed ending is, ‘ … the good go to God.’ Could it work in our lives? If so, we note have something to anticipate even when the going gets tough. We can start planning how to please God when the going gets good. What says you?
Point to Ponder
Can we identify that ‘one thing’ to please God in our times of ‘peace’? It doesn’t have to be monumental. Let’s go for pleasing God.
