An Urge to Take Note When God is Speaking to us

Have you ever gotten the urge to take notes in class, and then there’s a pop quiz that confirms the urge? What about an urge to take note when God is speaking to us? Consider Today’s Holy Nougat.

Revelation 21:5 CEB

[5] Then the one seated on the throne said, “Look! I’m making all things new.” He also said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

Take Note

A quick visit to my alma mater some time ago resulted in a trip to the science block that facilitated my university career. The memories, good and bad, came rushing back. I distinctly recalled sitting near the labs, and someone approached me, offering the lab books for free. What’s so special about the offer, you say … I’m glad you asked because those special lab books contained everything one needed to pass the entire semester of labs! Formulas, equations, correct write up, I’d only have to copy the information to my own lab workbook discreetly.

Self-Check

What would you do with an offer like that?

Application

‘Take note of my trustworthy and true words’ sounds like a lab book offer. In one sense it is. However, Y’shua Jesus is not proposing that we cheat our way out of college. Rather, Y’shua offered John the opportunity to share a profound revelation about the future. A future that’s beginning to unfold as John was told. Had we received John’s vision, how would we respond?

We each have the opportunity to hear from God. Y’shua offers each of us an exclusive lab book to help us navigate life. Are we listening? Are we taking notes?

Sometimes, I think I would have written the vision verbatim, at other times, I truly wonder if Y’shua could convince me. Maybe John had his own misgivings, hence he was told the vision was credible. It is credible, but even today is not wholly clear. How much more so in John’s time?

But siblings, John was Jesus’ contemporary. He was a disciple. A directive such as this, after a revelation such as he had might have had such a profound impact on him that compelled to write about our future. This revelation came while he was exiled on Patmos. Are we open to hear and share Y’shua’s visions for others amidst our own seasons of trials?

Point to Ponder

What’s God saying to us right now? Have we begun to take notes? With whom are we called to share?

May all we seek be found in Christ
