[37] Gale-force winds arose, and waves crashed against the boat so that the boat was swamped.

[1] Jesus and his disciples came to the other side of the lake, to the region of the Gerasenes.

Through the Storm

We may recall that Y’shua conducted many of His training sessions at the seaside. There, He taught from the boat, and the shore was the classroom. Of course, having access to boats meant that Y’shua also had some awesome adventures with His team. I choose awesome, but those caught in the storms might say awe-full. Whichever the perspective, the disciples were awestruck by the experience.

Have we ever experienced awesome adventures with Y’shua? What lessons did we learn?

Digging Deeper

When Y’shua invited the disciples to go across the lake, they had no idea that they would be caught in a dangerous storm. Whether they were swimmers or not, they had no option but to stay in the boat. There were gale force wounds out at sea. Small craft warnings would be in effect. But, it was a safer than swimming in the surging, tumultuous lake. Mark 4 tells us that though Y’shua was in the boat, He slept through most of the storm. Their Source of comfort was literally sleeping on the job.

We’ve all been there, I’m sure. Each of us have had moments when Jesus seemed to be asleep while we’re in the middle of turbulence.

I invite us to rehash the experience.

Perhaps you noted – as does our Nougat today – that you eventually made it to the other side. You might also realise, sleeping or not, that it was Y’shua Who got you safely to the other side. So have I. The journeys may have been rough, but we made it by the grace of God.

That’s the point of this reflection today. In the storms of life, on our awesome awe-full adventures with Y’shua, we will make it to the other side. This is guaranteed when Y’shua is with us, whether sleeping or not.

Point to Ponder

When Y’shua is sleeping in the boat during life’s storms, don’t panic. His rest assures us that all will be well. Focus on Him and not the storm
